That’s a wrap! The latest Route 2 Retrofit with Elvet Chartered Surveyors

We’re super proud to announce that last week we completed a new Route 2 Retrofit Skills Bootcamp with our employer partner, Elvet Chartered Surveyors. The bootcamp focused on providing these dedicated and determined learners with a full overview of aspects of working in the construction industry, with guidance and help choosing the right pathway for them.

Wondering what the Route 2 Retrofit course is? Here’s a breakdown…

Our Route 2 Retrofit Programmes are specifically designed for individuals 19+ who are keen to step it up a gear by learning about Construction Green Skills. The programme provides learners with a clear understanding of what Domestic Retrofit is and why it is becoming increasingly important to the industry.

The Route 2 Retrofit Skills Bootcamp is suitable for both employed and currently unemployed learners. Even with the most technical of roles, you can become qualified in less than a year. Giving yourself the queue jump to some very competitive salaries!!

For this particular Skills Bootcamp, we had the pleasure of partnering with Elvet Chartered Surveyors.

Elvet are an award winning multi-disciplined consultancy practice within the construction sector delivering three core services, which include:

  • Project management
  • Cost management
  • Building Surveying

Elvet owner, Glen Griffiths, attended our ‘Meet The Employer’ event at St James’ Park back in August. The event was a chance for the many young individuals to come along to speak with our employer partners about their current vacancies and really get a feel for what a career in the Construction and Social Housing industry could be like.

We asked him to share his thoughts on the event and this is what he has to say…

1. What did you think about the event, was it what they expected?

The careers event hosted by RE:geon has provided a great opportunity to meet face to face with young adults interested in pursuing a future career in the built environment. The event was well attended and will help to provide a valuable stepping stone for candidates to gain relevant training, work experience and employment within the industry.   

2. What did/are they enjoying most?

I enjoyed speaking with all of the attendees to discuss their career aspirations, answer any questions and offer advice on how best to pursue their goals. 

3. Do you think partnering with RE:geon (thus far) has been a great fit for finding new talent? 

RE:geon have acted as a conduit between our company and local colleges, job centres and recruitment portals to pair local candidates looking for opportunities in the construction industry in direct contact with us. Their help and assistance has already proven a great asset in our own search for new employees to strengthen our growing team. 

What did this Cohort do throughout their Route 2 Retrofit training?

Over the course of several weeks, the candidates were given a mix of classroom training and onsite work experience on live Retrofit projects with Elvet to provide the learners with a clear understanding of what Domestic Retrofit is and why it is becoming increasingly important to the industry! The course included a Retrofit Qualification and stacks of added value from the bespoke modules we designed with Elvet to make it truly unique. We call this our Employer-led approach.

As part of our collaboration with businesses like Elvet Chartered Surveyors, they get stuck in with the design and delivery of the course from day one to ensure it perfectly taps into their business goals and growth strategy. The benefit to them is that it creates a course bespoke to their business.

On their final day, we host a graduation which is geared to give our learners one final employability boost before the course is out. Our last day with this cohort consisted of all the learners planning and rehearsing a 10-minute presentation to present to the Elvet team. The presentations summarised their personal highlights of the course and pitched the roles they want to apply for.

It’s very important to us that the learners have the choice in the career paths they want to take, so we love hearing what roles caught their attention most, and hearing their elevator pitches in a bid to secure a spot!

During the Route 2 Retrofit programme, our learners have gained a multitude of skills and unrivalled experience working in Domestic Retrofit, something that they will carry for their entire career. They’ve had exposure to key figures within the construction world, and are now equipped with the tools and know-how to help lead the way in the Green Revolution.

As a result of their efforts, not only did Elvet Chartered Surveyors offer Josh Ward the position of Building Surveyor and Jacob Clee a Quantity Surveyor position, BUT we were able to engage another employer who we believed would be a great match for one of the other candidates. Aidan Forsyth has therefore been offered the position of a Building Surveyor with the Tiffen Group. Demonstrating just how impactful our network is of like-minded businesses ready and waiting to invest in the future generations.

But wait there’s MORE!!

Our rising star Amy Gittins used her new skills and boosted confidence to approach an employer of her own and is now embarking on a new career with Gateshead Council. We couldn’t be prouder!

We’d like to thank Elvet Chartered Surveyors, as well as our incredible trainers for delivering yet another successful course. But our biggest thanks goes out to our dedicated learners. Our cohort put 110% effort into the programme and we can’t wait to find out what happens in their career journeys next.

It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Elvet Chartered Surveyors. They share our genuine passion for developing these young minds and we couldn’t be happier with how the whole experience went.

We asked owner, Glen Griffiths to share with us his views after working with RE:geon on the Route 2 Retrofit programme. Here is what he had to say:
