RE:GEN Academy has been shortlisted for two awards at this year’s Generation 4 Change (G4C) North East Awards!
The Academy has been nominated in the Commitment to Employee and Training Development category, recognising its ongoing dedication to upskilling and empowering individuals in the construction and social housing sectors.
Additionally, Cheryl Sutherland, RE:GEN Academy Operations Manager, has been shortlisted for the Future Leader Award — an incredible achievement that celebrates the leadership and hard work of young professionals in the construction industry.
Cheryl is a true testament to the spirit of the Future Leader Award. At just 29 years old, thanks to her leadership, RE:GEN Academy has become a cornerstone of forward-thinking solutions to the skills shortages facing the social housing and retrofit sectors. This challenge, exacerbated by an ageing workforce and regional economic struggles, has made it increasingly difficult to attract younger talent into skilled roles.
Cheryl and the teams’ work addresses this gap by offering bespoke Skills Bootcamps, creating sustainable pathways into the industry.
Cheryl’s commitment extends beyond her role at RE:GEN Academy. She actively contributes as a STEM Ambassador, a school governor at Excelsior Academy, and a board member of the Engineering and Construction Advisory Board at Newcastle College. Cheryl is passionate about shaping the future of education and construction by developing real-world training that prepares individuals to succeed in the evolving job market.
RE:GEN Academy is dedicated to developing a local, motivated workforce that is equipped to tackle the challenges facing the construction sector. Its commitment extends to all aspects of the workforce ecosystem — from RE:GEN Group employees to our SME supply chain partners and the wider community. By fostering partnerships and proactively addressing the skills gap, the Academy is making a tangible impact on the future of our industry.
We believe that by investing in people, whether within RE:GEN Group, our supply chain, or the local community, we can create long-term, sustainable employment pathways that contribute to the decarbonisation of homes and the growth of the social housing sector.
Our efforts are truly life-changing for learners, empowering them with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to succeed while helping to build a more sustainable future for our industry and the North East.
G4C is the young professional voice of the UK built environment industry, a platform where emerging talent can connect, challenge, and help shape the future of the sector. It provides an environment for industry newcomers to find camaraderie, share ideas, and raise their voices to influence change. G4C is a hub for innovative thinking, best practices, and fresh perspectives in construction and related industries.
We’re incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved and are excited to celebrate these nominations at the G4C North East Awards in May. This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of the entire RE:GEN Academy team and the individuals we support.
